Wrestling Belt Makeovers: What Titles Need a Redesign in 2025?

Championship belts are at the heart of WWE storytelling. They’re more than just prizes—they represent legacy, prestige, and identity. From the classic Winged Eagle to the bold Universal Championship, belts often become as iconic as the superstars who wear them. But as WWE continues to evolve in 2025, not all current title designs are keeping pace. Some fans are calling for fresh designs that reflect today’s talent, divisions, and branding.

So, which championships are most overdue for a makeover? Let’s take a closer look at the belts that could use a design upgrade—and what fans would love to see.

 1. WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships

Since their introduction in 2019, the Women’s Tag Team Titles have struggled to capture the same prestige as their male counterparts. The current design features silver plates on white leather straps, which, while clean, come across as somewhat generic and uninspired. For a division that represents strength, teamwork, and evolution in women’s wrestling, the belts should reflect more character and impact.

Many fans have voiced that the titles lack a clear identity. Unlike the men’s tag belts, which—despite their age—have a defined “Spartan” theme, the women’s version feels like a blank slate. Some fans have even called it the most forgettable belt in WWE today.

What could improve it? Introducing more vibrant color palettes, embossed emblems that represent unity or female empowerment, and larger center plates could instantly boost their visual appeal. WWE could even differentiate Raw and SmackDown titles for added brand identity.

On our end: At Title Belt Store, we’ve seen growing interest in custom women’s tag belts—especially with bright side plates, glitter accents, and names or initials engraved on the plates. Personalization makes a huge difference.

 2. United States Championship

The U.S. Championship received a bold redesign in 2020, featuring a larger eagle and a more stylized American flag motif. While some praised it for breaking from tradition, many longtime fans found it lacking in historical substance. The belt’s design feels more like a modern trophy than a timeless symbol of American wrestling heritage.

The eagle—a classic wrestling belt feature—is still present, but it’s smaller and stylized in a way that doesn’t quite capture the grandeur of past versions. Fans often compare it to the much-loved 2003–2020 version held by stars like John Cena, MVP, and Eddie Guerrero, which featured a large American flag, eagle wings, and a proud, patriotic layout.

What’s next? A modern throwback could strike the perfect balance—classic flag imagery with a refined metal finish, bigger plates, and a touch of 3D engraving for depth. A layered look would give the belt more presence on TV and live events.

Custom insight: Many buyers at our store love ordering custom U.S.-inspired belts with unique takes on the red, white, and blue—like military emblems, state flags, or personal service tributes.

 3. Intercontinental Championship

The Intercontinental Championship holds a special place in WWE history. Worn by legends like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, and Randy Orton, it’s long been considered the "workhorse" title. However, its current version, introduced in late 2019, has received mixed reviews from the fanbase.

While it’s sleek and modern, it lacks the traditional charisma and visual identity of the classic white-strapped design that dominated from the early 2010s to 2019. That version felt prestigious—simple, elegant, and deeply connected to the belt’s lineage.

Why redesign it? Fans are nostalgic, and many argue the current IC belt feels too generic and doesn’t stand out. Bringing back the white strap, classic globe-centered plate, and a golden eagle could remind viewers why the Intercontinental Title used to headline shows.

From our workshop: We've had collectors commission hybrid custom belts—modern IC plates with vintage-inspired straps, or completely reimagined IC belts that include flag elements or wrestler tributes.

 4. Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles

It’s hard to believe, but WWE’s men’s tag titles haven’t had a major redesign since 2010. Originally introduced with copper plates, later recolored to silver with red and blue straps for Raw and SmackDown, the “Spartan helmet” look has long overstayed its welcome.

For a division that’s seen teams like The Usos, New Day, and Judgment Day carry the brand, these belts feel outdated. Their symmetry is appealing, but the artwork feels lifeless and disconnected from any real meaning.

Ideal makeover? Create separate, unique titles for each brand—or go the opposite route and introduce a unified, Undisputed Tag Team Championship with a more regal, detailed design. WWE could borrow inspiration from older WWF World Tag Team titles or even Japanese tag belts, which tend to have grander plate layouts.

Fan trend: We’re seeing increasing demand for custom tag team belts where teams name their titles, add personal logos, or create entirely new motifs (like dragons, fire, crowns, or dual animals). Fans and indie teams want titles that reflect their brand—not just colors.

 5. WWE Women’s World Championship

After years of confusion over the “Raw” and “SmackDown” labels, WWE finally unified the Women’s World Championship branding. While the current design is meant to match the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, some fans feel this mimics the men’s design a bit too closely and misses an opportunity to create something unique for the women’s division.

The design is clean and authoritative—but where’s the flair? Fans miss the days of bold, individualistic belts like the Divas Title (flawed as it was) or the early 2016 Women’s Championship with its distinctive red background.

What would elevate it? Introduce feminine power elements—crowns, phoenixes, floral etching, or even gemstone customization—that still convey strength. Unique strap materials like velvet textures, gradient coloring, or metallic finishes could make the title stand out on TV and social media.

Popular requests: We’ve made dozens of custom women’s championship belts with sparkling gems, bright color plating, and symbolic artwork—celebrating everything from athleticism to empowerment.

Why Belt Design Matters—And How You Can Create Your Own

Championship belts tell stories. Whether they commemorate victory, legacy, or identity, the design of a title can make or break how fans perceive its value. A visually stunning belt turns heads, boosts credibility, and gets people talking. A forgettable design, on the other hand, fades into the background. At Title Belt Store, we believe every champion deserves a belt that’s worthy of their moment. That’s why we offer fully customized championship belts—crafted for collectors, fans, indie wrestlers, sports teams, or anyone who wants to own a title that’s truly one of a kind. Whether you’re inspired by classic WWE belts, modern redesigns, or your own original idea—we can bring your concept to life.
